A Few Guys You'll Need To Know

With the fate of the Cleveland Browns resting in the hands of the Indianapolis Colts, I thought it would be best to introduce you all to the actual Colts that will be held responsible with the duties this weekend, as a win over Tennessee cements a playoff bid for Cleveland - the first in quite some time.

But no, these will not be your typical Colts featuring Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne and Joseph Addai. Oh no, you'll have to dig pretty, pretty deep to find the jerseys of the folks you'll be rooting for. After this little exercise is over, maybe we will find that things might not be too bad. Or maybe this is all just wishful thinking. Without further ado, your week 17 Indianapolis Colts.

QB - Jim Sorgi

It All Starts With Sorgi

The Indianapolis Star has already confirmed that Sorgi will play "at least" a half in this week's game. Great news. Sorgi has thrown all of 12 passes on the season, completing seven of them for 64 yards. He has been fairly effective when given the chance to play, and was recently signed to a contract extension through 2010. After the Colts locked up a spot in 2005, Sorgi threw back-to-back games of at least 200 yards and a touchdown. While he won't throw for 300 yards and four touchdowns, all is not lost when Sorgi takes over.

RB - Kenton Keith

Another K2 To Root For

It wouldn't surprise me to see Keith carry the load from the second quarter on this week as the Colts will have to ensure that Joseph Addai is good to go for the playoffs. Keith's season as a back-up has been pretty solid thus far, including the week five game against Tampa Bay where he racked up 160 total yards, finding the end zone twice. He has sniffed 100 yard several times this year and even racked up 60 on 10 carries last week against Houston. It could really be a lot worse in terms of a back-up running back. In fact, I'm sure there are teams out there that would love to have Keith as their starter. Yes, I'm looking at you, Chicago.

WR - Devin Aromashodu

How Do You Aromashodu?

Here's where it starts to get fun. Believe it or not, Aromashodu is right behind Reggie Wayne on the depth chart as the "second" receiver. He saw his first action of the season in the week 14 blowout of the Baltimore Ravens, and has recorded a catch in each game since. When Anthony Gonzalez left the game last week, Aromashodu hauled in three passes for 42 yards, making for a respectible game. He'll need to harness some Aretha Franklin this week and keep the respect going - the receiving game depends on it. Otherwise, it's all up to...

WR - Craphonso Thorpe

Oh No.

Good luck finding a picture of this cat in action. Thorpe is listed as "proabable" for this week's game, but will likely see a bit of action against the Titans. He was a fourth round selection by the Chiefs, but never really saw the light of day thanks to their stellar receiving corps. Thorpe caught five balls for 41 yards against the Chargers during week 10, but has not done much since. Here's hoping that one of the greatest names ever can actually ammount to something this week.

TE - Bryan Fletcher

There's No

With Ben Utecht not expected to suit up thanks to a shoulder injury, Indy will likely turn to Bryan Fletcher for the majority of the tight end duties. He's coming off of a strong game that saw him haul in five passes for 25 yards - part of his 17 catches and 138 yards on the season. In a game against Tennessee last season, Fletcher caught three balls for 56 yards so it's been done before!

The moral of the story is while this won't be last season's Colts championship team suiting up against the Titans this week, it could be a lot worse. In fact, given the way they played last week, I think this Colts team has a better shot to beat Tennessee than the Browns would at this point. I'm not sure how much that's saying, but Cleveland's fate will be determined soon enough.

Hi, My Name Is: Jesse Chatman

The Miami Dolphins are winless on the season. And now with recent news out of the Miami Herald, it looks like while they lost yet another game on Sunday, they will also lose their prized running back for the rest of the season.

Enter Jesse Chatman.

Like many others in the "Hi, My Name Is" series, Chatman was an undrafted free agent, signed in 2002. His college experience stems from Eastern Washington University, where he was an AP I-AA All-American selection. University of Michigan fans should know something about I-AA, but I digress.

While in school, Chatman recorded the fourth-highest single season rushing total in I-AA history with 2,096. He finished his collegiate career with 53 trips to the end zone and over 4,000 yards.

Since entering the NFL in 2002, Chatman spent several years with the Chargers before giving way to some guy named LaDanian Tomlinson. He had a tour of duty with the Dolphins, but was traded to New Orleans in 2005.

He spent 2006 out of the NFL, but rejoined the Dolphins in 2007 where he will now be thrusted into the starting running back slot for Cam Cameron.

What many not know is that Chatman was right on the tails of Brown in the preseason, sparking rumors of the former first round pick taking a back seat. Well, now Brown will take a seat on the trainers table, and Chatman will be getting the bulk of the carries while Miami still searches for their first win of the season. Good luck, Jesse.

Fans of Miami, congratulations on that number one overall pick in 2008! Will it be Jake Long? Brian Brohm? Heck, Andre Woodson?

Hi, My Name Is: Koren Robinson

Typically, the "Hi My Name Is" features are about unknown players. In this case, many of fans know of Koren Robinson, but what you may not know is that the veteran receiver has been reinstated today.

If you recall, Robinson was given the chance to rejuvinate his career in Minnesota. He then proceeded to throw opportunity off of a giant cliff by getting busted with a blood alcohol level of 0.11 percent while driving at triple-digit speeds.

He was promptly released by the Vikings and picked up by division rival Green Bay. After playing in a handful of games, Robinson was suspended for a year and spent 90 days in jail due to the abovementioned incident.

Well, today hath shine a ray of light.

..according to Robinson's agent Alvin Keels...

"He just got this letter this morning," Keels said. "He's flying to Green Bay and will start to catch up on things with the team. The Packers have a bye week so he has some time to get caught up."
The Packers will be given a roster exemption for Robinson until they decide when he should come onto the active roster.

His return has been long awaited by quarterback Brett Favre, who feels that the receiver should be given another chance. For a team that throws the ball roughly 50 times a game, another receiver added to the mix will only help. Of course until he gets in trouble again; which, by using history to tell the future,is bound to happen eventually.

The Name Game

Each year, the NFL Draft brings us a list of glorious names. This past year alone saw Jermon Bushrod (offensive tackle, shown above), Turk McBride (defensive end), and C.J. Ah You (defensive end).

Maybe it has something to do with linemen, but Deuce of Davenport brings us a collection of some of the greatest names in the NFL - broken down into categories, no less.

The All-Round Toughguys -
These guys names are just badass in their own, unclassifiable ways. How can you label a D'brickashaw?

Bam Childress - ne wr (prac. sqd.)
D'brickashaw Ferguson - nyj OT
Tuff Harris - mia cb - (prac. sqd.)

While The Deuce didn't include some of my favorites, like Craphonso Thorpe (WR, IND), it's a pretty solid collection of some of the best in the league.

Hi, My Name Is: Matt Moore

*"Hi, My Name Is" is a sporadic feature on First and 10 Inches that introduces you to players that have been thrusted into starting positions for one reason or another. Odds are, this is likely the first time you've heard of the player mentioned.

With "Meet Selvin Young" being put on hold a bit with Travis Henry taking his weed-smoking ways to court, the recent decision by Jake Delhomme to undergo surgery will likely bring us a new name in the quarterback ranks.

What about David Carr, you ask? His status for next week is uncertain after he was put in the camel clutch by the Houston Texans this past Sunday. This allows Moore, not to be confused with award-winning film producer Michael Moore, to get a few snaps and attempt to hurl the ball to Steve Smith as many times as possible.

Moore is a rookie QB out of Oregon State, the same school that has brought us many quarterbacking legends such as Derek Anderson of the Cleveland Browns. Only, Oregon State wasn't Moore's first and only stop in the NCAA circuit. Moore started off at UCLA, and then transfered to the College of the Canyons - a community college in Los Angeles. Their nickname is the Cougars, in case you were wondering.

After being drafted as a third baseman in the 22nd round by the Anaheim Angels, Moore opted for the football path at Oregon State. Apparently, 22nd round draft picks do not flourish very often. Thankfully for OSU, this move resulted in an upset win over USC and a Bowl victory over Missouri that featured four touchdown passes by Moore.

What round was he selected in the NFL draft? Well, he wasn't. He was an un-drafted rookie that was signed by the Dallas Cowboys - only to be cut a few weeks later. He was picked up by the Carolina Panthers, and could now be on the verge of his first career start in the NFL.

Carolina fans have plenty of reason to be nervous given the fact that a former community college athlete is their starting quarterback, but he could surprise a few people this week if given the chance. Just ask Pete Carroll.

Meet Selvin Young

With Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry choosing to spend his money on weed (and court appearances) rather than child support, we could be seeing a changing of the guard in Denver.

Ladies and Gents, meet Selvin Young. Young was an un-drafted free agent that found his way into Denver this past April. Since making his way into camp, he's been turning heads.

A "four-star" recruit out of Houston, Texas, Young comes from the University of Texas where he went from Ced Benson back-up to full-time gig, finishing his college career with 20 touchdowns and over 3,000 yards. And for those that care, he graduated from the University after five years.

Fantasy team fister Mike Shanahan named Young the #2 back behind the aforementioned Henry in the off-season, and it looks like he'll be the man once Henry goes down in the court of law, prior to the court of Goodell.

Thus far in the season, Young has averaged roughly 10 yards per touch and is a powering back that can gain the extra yard after the tackle. Of course, we all know that anyone can be a successful running back in Denver, so a talented one makes things that much better. While we still don't know if Henry will miss this week's game, do not be surprised to see an awful lot of the former Longhorn when the commish's gavel hits the table.
